Homemade pool solar rings/ squares for reducing water evaporation

Solar rings, solar blankets and solar squares are in great demand to save pool water evaporation as the drought pushes us Californians into uncharted territory.

A few years ago I happened upon a wise and resourceful elderly woman who used very simple and common materials to make her own solar rings out of hula hoops. I was impressed with her innovation and soon did the same with my pool. I’ve since improved upon her idea by using PVC pipe. It not only lasts longer but it covers more pool water surface area (which decreases evaporation) and stacks more efficiently in the winter for storage.
