HOW OFTEN SHOULD THE FILTER BE CLEANED?
At least every 5 PSI increase but I recommend every six months on 300SF filters and larger. A good cleaning every six months will prolong the life of the elements. Cartridge filters smaller than 300 SF need to be cleaned more often. Don’t use a pressure washer or car wash! The garden hose with a nozzle is best.
IS THERE A SANTA CLAUS?
Of course there is, I just wanted to see if you’re paying attention.
HOW DO TITLE 20 ENERGY LAWS RELATE TO POOL PUMPS?
Swimming pool pumps are second only to your air conditioner in power consumption.
For this reason the California Energy Commission passed laws (2006) mandating energy efficient pumps be used on swimming pools (most commonly, variable speed pool pumps). You may not have more than 1.0 Total Horsepower on the filtration pump. More info on Title 20:

HOW MUCH MONEY DO VARIABLE SPEED PUMPS SAVE?
If installed correctly you will save at least half of what you currently pay.
WHAT IS THE GFCI ON A POOL?
GFCI stands for Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter. They are required on swimming pools lights and are extremely effective in protecting swimmers from electrical shock. The device senses current and trips if there is a short or surge. It is not uncommon for them to false trip during a storm (better safe then sorry as they are easily reset).
CAN I ADD CHLORINE TO A SALT SWIMMING POOL?
Yes. It is a common misnomer that salt water pools don’t use chlorine. Salt water generators use low voltage electrolysis to turn salt water into chlorine. If additional chlorine is needed is is perfectly okay to add liquid bleach.
I THINK I HAVE A LEAK. HOW MUCH WATER SHOULD I LOSE TO EVAPORATION?
This is a complicated answer with an easy and effective way to self-test: Do the Bucket Test.
